The Bay Bridge is Back

WHO: Hancock Chamber, local businesses and organizations with support from Hollywood Casino & Golf Resort in Bay St. Louis, Bay-Waveland Yacht Club, City of Bay St. Louis, City of Waveland and Hancock County Board of Supervisors together with Cellular South and other corporate sponsors

WHAT: Hosting a Bridge Fest to celebrate the opening of the Bay Bridge connecting Bay St. Louis and Waveland to Pass Christian and the Mississippi Coast

WHEN: Thursday, May 17

WHERE: North Beach Blvd from the Bridge at Highway 90 in Bay St. Louis down to and on the grounds of the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club, Bay St. Louis, MS

EVENT DETAILS:

  • 2pm Ceremony to Dedicate the Opening of the Bay Bridge
    Mississippi Department of Transportation together with local, state and federal officials will host a ceremony to dedicate the bridge. The public is invited to attend. Following the ceremony, officials will board two buses (from the Bay side of the bridge) and ride to the top of the bridge for a ceremonial ribbon tying-bridging the bay.
  • 3pm Officials will re-board the buses and travel across the bridge toward Pass Christian, turn around and travel back over the bridge followed by the Classic Cars.
  • 3:30pm Classic Car Cross Over the Bay Bridge
    Following the buses, classic cars will be the first to cross the bridge from the Pass Christian side of the bridge. To be part of this cross over, car owners must register in advance by contacting: Mark Duffy at mdduffy@cableone.net 228-324-6116. (Mark or his appointed coordinator will be the contact with MS Department of Transportation to insure that all cars registered have access to line up for the cross over.)
  • 4pm Bay Bridge Open to the Public
    Both sides of the bridge will open to the public (estimated time: 4pm) for vehicular transportation only following the classic car cross over. (Bridge is still a construction area with only two lanes to open on May 17th. The pedestrian walk-way is scheduled to open in November with two additional lanes. In November, 20 line drawings by local artists will be featured on brass placards along the walk-way.)
  • 4pm Bridge Fest & Classic Car Parade down North Beach toward Bay-Waveland Yacht Club. Beach Blvd to the Yacht Club will be closed for through traffic. Citizens with residences (or trailers) along that route will be allowed access with proof of residency. To be part of the bridge cross over and parade, classic cars must register in advance with Mark Duffy at mdduffy@cableone.net or 228-324-6116. Cars will park along Beach Blvd to the Yacht Club entrance to create a festive environment for festival goers. (Space is limited. Participating cars must obtain access pass from Mark Duffy.)
  • 4pm When classic cars are parked, festival goers will be allowed entrance to North Beach by foot. Parking is allowed along the service roads. Second street at Highway 90 to the Beach will be open only to emergency vehicles, law enforcement and parking shuttles. A shuttle bus, sponsored by Hollywood Casino & Golf Resort, will run along the north service road from the Bridge to Marketown Shopping Center and from Marketown Shopping Center to Second Street to the Yacht Club Entrance to assist festival goers.
  • 4-8pm Staging areas will be set up along North Beach and at the Bay Waveland Yacht Club for entertainment. Featured entertainment includes: The Pat Murphy Band
  • Festival goers are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy a festive evening. The public is invited to attend all aspects of the festival, including access to the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club. The Yacht Club is the host site of the Bridge Fest Expo---a showcase of area businesses and organizations. The fee to participate is $100 for Members of the Hancock County and $250 for non members of the Hancock Chamber. (Limit: two booths per vendor.) Vendors and/or organizations may display wares for sale, including food items. No alcoholic beverages may be distributed or sold by vendors.

    Some organizations and businesses may offer food items for a donation to benefit their favorite charity, program or project. Beverages will be available for sale on the Yacht Club property by the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club. No ice chests will be allowed on the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club site. All parking for this event is off-site. No parking is available along North Beach Blvd. to the Yacht Club site and on the Yacht Club property.

    Hollywood Casino & Golf Resort will sponsor the Corporate Village Area. This area is reserved for corporate sponsors and Bridge Fest Patrons. Sponsorship packages are available at: $5,000, $1,500, and $500. Packages include tickets to the corporate village and other promotional benefits. Individual patron tickets are $100 person and includes access to the corporate village, complimentary beverages and food.
