CHOICE

Not Chance
DETERMINES DESTINY
After numerous meetings with area business and governmental
leaders, the focus for 2007 became clear. 2007 will be a
critical year for Hancock County. To achieve the goals to
rebuild a better Mississippi Coast, we must focus on making
choices to determine our destiny. CHOICE not chance
DETERMINES DESTINY. The Chamber is the voice of business
GUIDING our community rebuilding. While it is critical for
the Chamber to stay focused on programs to grow our member
businesses, we must provide leadership to rebuild our
community—our businesses depend on our focused involvement.
With 800 members strong representing 10,000 employees, our
mission and role will continue to be critical. This year we
will focus on four major initiatives: business corridors;
educational enhancements; governmental relations and
administrative support. This year, we will bring our staff
to four full time positions to provide the administrative
support to help us achieve the goals. We will work with
local school districts to recognize and reward our students
and our teachers for their achievements because quality
education is economic development. We will enhance our
relationships with area governmental leaders, our partners
in rebuilding; and, we will focus on implementing programs
to enhance and improve our business corridors. Building a
positive image for our community is a key factor in
attracting residents, businesses and visitors alike.
Improving the appearance of our community projects an image
of quality and service that entices customers. Increased
spending with local businesses translates into increased
sales tax revenues collected by the cities. Everyone
profits. As we move swiftly through 2007, I hope we will
remain cautious about the decisions we make that will impact
our community for generations to come.
