“The hospitality we received from the Hancock Chamber of Commerce was outstanding”
The crime adventure indie, which features “Terminator” actress Linda Hamilton, shot key scenes on the Bay St Louis beach over Labor Day weekend.
Mississippi’s natural beauty and inborn hospitality have attracted yet another film production. This time a New Orleans-based independent feature film, Easy Does It. The film follows two Mississippi dreamers turned clueless criminals, Jack and Scottie (Ben Matheny, American Horror Story and Matthew Martinez, NCIS: New Orleans) who must flee a ruthless crime matriarch, King George, (Linda Hamilton, The Terminator franchise) a cocky cop (Bryan Batt, Mad Men) and a weary sheriff (Dwight Henry, Beasts of the Southern Wild) as they rob their way across the Southwest. Rounding out the cast are the antihero’s accidental hostage turned new friend, Collin (comedian Cory Dumesnil) and the deranged bounty huntress tracking the boys, Blue Eyes (Susan Gordon, Empire).
The film was directed and co-written by up-and-coming auteur, Will Addison, who also serves as a producer on the project. Addison enjoyed shooting on the Bay St. Louis beach for a couple of the film’s iconic scenes. “It’s a perfect spot for filming– such a beautiful city with beaches that can double for any in the country.”
The film’s cinematographer and co-executive producer, Bruno Doria agreed: “I love the way the sun sets behind the beach. It really created a great atmosphere for us when shooting on 16mm film.”
Matheny, who in addition to playing the film’s protagonist, co-wrote and serves as a producer on the film, was born in Ocean Springs, and was proud to bring a day of shooting to the gulf coast. “The hospitality we received from the Hancock Chamber of Commerce was outstanding. All of my experiences filming in MS have been excellent due in large part to the awesome work done by the Mississippi film commission. I’ve been in the film industry for almost a decade now, and I’ve never experienced a commission as accommodating and knowledgeable. Bill Webb in particular has gone above and beyond!”
The film, which is still seeking distribution, will enter the festival circuit in late 2018/early 2019. Easy Does It is a co-production between EFI Productions and Worklight Pictures. Lizzie Guitreau, Ben Matheny and Will Addison are the producers, Bruno Doria the Co-Executive Producer and the film’s Executive Producer is Alexa Georges.
