PARTNERS FOR STENNIS & MICHOUD TO ADVOCATE FOR NASA FACILITIES AT UPCOMING D.C. FLY-IN
Partners for Stennis & Michoud will participate in the Citizens for Space Exploration (CSE) annual Washington D.C. Fly-In from May 19–22, 2025. Their mission: to advocate for continued federal support of NASA’s Stennis Space Center in Mississippi and the Michoud Assembly Facility in Louisiana.
The delegation will join a multi-state, grassroots team of business leaders, educators, and space advocates in meetings with members of Congress to highlight the critical economic and technological roles these facilities play in the region and the nation.
“We go to Washington annually to ensure lawmakers understand that investments in Stennis and Michoud are investments in American innovation, economic growth, and national security,” said Tish Williams, Executive Director of Partners for Stennis & Michoud.
NASA’s Stennis Space Center is a major contributor to the Gulf Coast economies of Louisiana and Mississippi. It spends $.74 of every dollar within a four-county/parish, 50-mile-radius area. It also is responsible for contributing more than $1.06 billion to the economies of that region, which include Hancock, Harrison and Pearl River counties in Mississippi and St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana.
Meanwhile, the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans is a key site for assembling the Space Launch System (SLS). In 2024, Michoud supported over 2,500 jobs in Greater New Orleans and contributed $507.3 million to Louisiana’s economy.
Partners for Stennis & Michoud is a volunteer group comprising businesses, educational institutions, local governments, regional Chambers of Commerce and economic development foundations, community groups, and individual citizens who advocate for space, earth, and ocean exploration. Their mission is to promote the economic, technical, and academic growth and stability of NASA’s Stennis Space Center and Michoud Assembly Facility through projects that ensure government decision-makers, business interests, and interested citizens recognize the value and importance of these centers.
Citizens for Space Exploration is a multi-state, grassroots space advocacy group of concerned citizens. Their mission is to promote awareness of the benefits of America’s Human Space Exploration Program and to support NASA.
Partners for Stennis & Michoud’s participation in the CSE Fly-In underscores their commitment to advocating for the region’s space infrastructure and its broader implications for national progress.
The delegation’s itinerary includes congressional office visits on May 20–21 and a congressional reception on May 20.For more information or to get involved, visit www.partnersforstennis.org or www.citizensforspace.org.
